The Tech Investor Summit keynote
address will be delivered by Leon Panetta, one of
the foremost U.S. economic policymakers of the past
20 years. Mr. Panetta currently co-chairs the Corporate
Accountability and Listing Standards Committee for
the NYSE. He also serves on the NYSE Board of Directors.
As White House chief of staff
during the Clinton administration, Leon Panetta
earned the respect and high regard of his political
colleagues, the press, and the nation. Credited
with bringing stability to the White House, Panetta
had been director of the Office of Management and
Budget and served in the House of Representatives
for 16 years. Today, he brings clarity to the most
complicated of issues, offering audiences the same
honesty and good humor that placed him at the very
center of power.
Panetta played a major role in
developing the Clinton economic plan that resulted
in consistent deficit reduction and a revitalized
marketplace. The chief negotiator in the 1996 Budget
Compromise, he participated in every budget summit
throughout the 1980s and 90s. As a representative
from California from 1977 to 1993, he made a tangible
impact on issues of health, education and the environment.
Deeply committed to education
and its role in the continuing strength of the
nation, Panetta is distinguished scholar to the
chancellor of the California state university system,
providing guidance on national and international
issues. He teaches at CSU Monterey, which he helped
to establish, and at his alma mater, Santa Clara
University.
